Today is August 17, 2013. 14 years ago today, Turkish people were shocked by very sad news. On August 17, 1999, at 3:02 am, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck north west Turkey. The epicenter was Kocaeli/Golcuk. According to unofficial sources, there were more than 50,000 death and 100,000 injured people. Some people lost their loved ones during the earthquake and are still waiting for their return. We haven’t forgotten 1999 earthquake that left indelible marks on the hearts of our people. We respectfully remember those who lost their life during the earthquake.
